"Froogle" is a combination of the words "frugal" (thrifty) and "Google".
Froogle was launched in Beta on
December 12,
2002. Froogle is a new service from Google that makes it easy to find
information about products for sale online. You can just go to froogle and
all the items available for sale will be listed there. Froogle includes
specific products from a multitude of ecommerce sites on the web. The
search results include a picture of the item for sale, the price of the
item, the store where the item is for sale, the category, and a brief
description from the store's site. Based on the Google algorithm and
database, Froogle enables you to quickly and easily find specific products
for sale all over the web. It also enables you to search for general
search phrases and will return products for sale that relate to your
query. This is where search engine optimization comes into the picture.
Google has introduced an entirely new motivation for webmasters to
optimize their ecommerce sites.
How to index in froogle
Normal process for being listed on Froogle is that you must first sign up
with an account through Google. Then Google requires you to create a data
feed containing your products, saved in a specific format, and then upload
this file to their server. The process can be quite time-consuming. As an
extension of the Google search engine that millions of people around the
globe use daily to research products before they purchase, listing your
product in Froogle is a free way to extend the reach of your marketing
efforts to millions of customers. The Froogle Engine itself is organized
into Categories. There are 14 categories. Shoppers can either drill-down
on any of them or search directly by keyword. Shoppers can also limit your
search to a specific category. Froogle obtains listings for products from
vendors and from scouring the web. When Google runs across a page that
appears to sell something, it feeds the information it collects to Froogle.
Vendors don't pay to have their products included in Froogle's search
results. However, they can purchase sponsored links, which appear along
the right side of Froogle's results pages. When Froogle finds more than
one product from a site, it includes the link "See all results from
vendor." Limiting the number of results from a given site to just one
ensures products from a single vendor won't dominate your search results
and that Froogle provides pages from a variety of sites.
Froogle’s results are compiled by the same software Google use to compile
results for its main index at Google.com, in order of relevance, and they
haven’t used this as an excuse to choke it with paid advertising either.
Just like Google does, Froogle displays keyword relevant Adwords alongside
its product listings. That said those that rank well on Google for certain
terms won’t necessarily see those results translate well onto rankings in
Froogle. As its software crawls the web, Froogle automatically identifies
products for sale and the picture, price, and category associated with
each product. Froogle may occasionally make incorrect assumptions about
content, resulting in a mismatch between products and images. While we
continuously fine tune this process, the best way to ensure accuracy is to
provide us with a data feed that you know to contain the most up-to-date
and accurate information about your products.
Ways you can get included in Froogle:
1. The first, though not the most effective is to let Google or Froogle
crawl your site and pick up the information for itself. This is likely to
result in inaccuracies in your product listing.
2. The second, and more effective way is to submit a data feed directly to
Froogle. Create an Account With Froogle
3. To be eligible to submit a feed, you must sell products via your
website and ship them to the buyer. If you sell services or custom
products that do not have fixed prices, use your website only to promote
an offline business, or are an affiliate marketing site, your site content
may be crawled by and included in Google's web search, but it will not be
included in Froogle. Nor will Froogle accept a data feed under these
conditions.
Inclusion in Froogle is absolutely free. There are absolutely no
hidden charges. It enables users to search over the broadest possible
range of products for sale online.
1 ) Froogle is focused on objectively finding what shoppers are looking
for. We do not accept payment to increase the rankings of stores within
the search results. The ads that appear to the right of the listing
results are clearly labeled as "Sponsored Links."
2 ) We do not sell products. There is no shopping cart or wallet system to
use. |
