Bad
Code Hurts Your Search Engine Ranking
Did you know HTML code errors can negatively affect your search
engine ranking? Most webmasters don't realize that simple page
errors can cause a search engine spider to incorrectly index a
page or skip the page altogether. Checking your code and links
before launching a page just became an even better idea.
Search
Engine Ranking Determined By Relevancy Bad code can hurt your
site with the search engines in several ways. Search engines score
a page by looking for relevant terms in key HTML components in
specific places within a document. If they don't find them because
of typos or other mistakes, the spiders can downgrade your page
or leave without reading your whole page. Incorrect document structure
such as a badly placed tag - like a META tag placed in the BODY
section instead of the HEAD section - can cause the spider to
ignore the tag, reducing your relevancy score and subsequent ranking.
What if you transposed a few letters when typing an important
tag? Say you typed TILTE instead of TITLE for your TITLE tag.
Search engines place high importance on text contained in a TITLE
tag. If you type the tag name wrong, the search engine will ignore
the tag and all its contents!
Other
errors on your page can also limit how search engine spiders index
your site. Broken links act as roadblocks to the spiders. Search
engine spiders index text and follow links. If they come to your
site and encounter broken links, they won't be able to fully crawl
your site and they may abandon it (they've got the whole Internet
to index, why waste time with a site with broken links!) Notes:
Every day new directories come into existence and others disappear.
While we try to keep up with all of these changes, the list below
may not reflect the latest changes to the directories supported
by Submit It!.
Directories
and search engines that accept your submission may require from
one day to eight weeks or more to add your listing to their directory.
We've grouped the directories and search engines into 28 different
categories. About 10 directories and search engines charge for
listings. Not all directories and search engines are relevant
for all Web sites. For example, some are only for non-US Web sites.
Some directories and search engines periodically suspend submissions.
Search
engine submission is the most effective and inexpensive form of
web page promotion on the Internet. An effective promotion is
the most vital step in getting the web site exposure that you
need. At least 80% of web site traffic is generated through Internet
search engines and directory searches. Making web site submission
a part of your on-line business campaign is essential... It is
something you simply must do! Yahoo and the TopSites network are
the most important places for your web site to be listed. It is
also important to have as many links to your site from other sites
as possible. That is why we include promotion to over 1000 sites
in all of our promotions.
It
does not pay to cut corners on web promotion and the fees
for Yahoo Business Express and the TopSites network are bottom
dollar for top value! Once your site is listed in Yahoo, it will
remain listed for 1 year. The TopSites sites will revisit your
site and index your pages monthly for a year. If you have ever
placed a three line ad in the back of a magazine for one month,
youll understand that a listing in Yahoo and the TopSites
network is the deal of the century. Do it now! It is important
to understand how the search engines and directories work in order
to meet their criteria and gain a good position when people do
a search. Each search site has it's own criteria or rules for
listing pages. It is of prime importance that your web pages be
tailored for promotion to the top search engines and directories.
We know you are busy, so we offer packages where we review your
site and provide easy instructions and cut & paste HTML Code
solutions to prime your site for promotion. You don't need to
learn everything about web promotion - let us do it for you, so
